Are they hard to put together? Depends on how mechanically incline you are. You don't need 2 people to put together, yes a drill with a hex bit makes it easier. It took me about 15 minutes a chair with a combination of the hand and power tool . As for material I would say it's in the upper portion on fabric. they do seem strong for people that are over 250 they don't flex like a cheap one.
